Who will be the first to bring Chamber Music at the Scarab Club to West Michigan?

Scarab_chamber_group

This is an old note from Nadine Deleury, Cellist with the Michigan Opera Theater, and she participates in a number of small musical groups in Detroit. I want all to know about this dynamic woman who organizes concerts in different locations around Southwestern Michigan, including the Detroit Art House, home of Professor Farrell.

The Note Follows Here:

Hello!

Our first concert this season at the Art House, home of Prof. Farrell! For those of you who have come before to one of our concerts there or attended lectures, you don't need any introduction, for the lucky ones who still have to discover the magic of this beautiful house and their hosts, I encourage you to come to this concert. The concerts are held in the ballroom upstairs (which is not handicapped accessible), the acoustics are superb and the atmosphere perfect for some an intimate event. Read on for more info. The attachments are the same info as below plus a recent photo of the Trio at the DIA taken last month by an audience member. The program is somewhat different from our recent programs with the addition of a new Jansa Duo, a Beethoven clarinet/cello duo and some opera songs for duo as well. Any question? you know how to reach me!
Sunday, 23 October 2011 at 11:00 AM

The program will include a delightful mix of duos and trios by Classical period composers Kummer, Beethoven and Jansa, Canadian composer Marjan Mozetich, German-born violinist/composer Adolf Busch and Americans Ingolf Dahl and Scott Joplin as well as some opera favorite tunes! This concert will have something for everyone!

The Bowman-Kelly-Deleury Trio is comprised of three fine musicians who are all members of the Michigan Opera Theatre Orchestra. Violinist Velda Kelly and cellist Nadine Deleury are founders and artistic directors of Chamber Music at the Scarab Club (CMSC). They have performed together with clarinetist Brian Bowman on the CMSC series and at many other Michigan venues and even Ontario. These instrumentalists share a strong desire to discover and bring to audiences forgotten and new musical treasures.

Each piece will be introduced by one of the musicians in order to enhance your listening experience.
Experience chamber music as it was intended: Performed by a small group in intimate surroundings
Cost: $25.00 U.S.
Advance registration is required
Doors open at 10:30 AM; concert begins promptly at 11:00 AM. Late-comers cannot be accommodated.
Art House is in historic Brush Park at 59 Alfred Street, Detroit
Concert will take place on the third floor; Art House is an historic residence and is not handicapped accessible.

Melody Alley recommends buying local art by Signature Galley artists, Kalamazoo @PureMichigan, Christmas and now.

Sig

This is an old note from Melody Allen of Kalamazoo, and she works with the Signature Gallery. It's good to remember in the Spring that we can save our money to buy local art for Christmas gifts.

Melody Allen wrote as follows:

There certainly are a lot of opportunities to "Buy local" this holiday season!  You can find my artwork at the following venues:

This Friday, Dec. 2, I will be selling my Farmer's Market Series cards and prints at the People's Food Co-op from 5:00 to 9:00.

Also this Friday and Saturday, I will have originals, prints and cards at the KIA's annual holiday sale.  The hours are Fri. 5:00 to 7:30, and  Saturday 9:00 to 3:00.

In addition, the Signature Gallery's first day of business will be this Saturday from 10:00 to 7:00, with a reception on Sunday from 12:00 to 5:00.  I will be there both days, so I hope you can stop by and say hello.  I am selling my original pastels and my cards there.

The gallery's new space is at the east end of the Westwood Plaza near Mackenzie's Bakery.  The gallery will be open daily until Dec. 27 (closed Christmas day).  Hours are weekdays 10:00 to 7:00 and Sundays 12:00 to 5:00.  The gallery phone is (269)383-4134, and a postcard for the gallery is attached.

Feel free to call me if you have any questions.  (269)383-8062

Square Peg Events presents the second annual ‘Boys & Beer Tour' in downtown Holland, MI

HOLLAND, MI — Square Peg Events, LLC and art-enhanced event company based out of Holland, Michigan is producing the second annual Boys & Beer tour featuring a variety of signature downtown hosting venues from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday, March 23.

The participants will be experiencing beer samplings and food tasting during their tour directed by Cynthia Hagedorn, downtown tour guide and owner and creative director of Square Peg Events.

“Our ‘beering committee’ has put together a fun and educational tour featuring the finest beer establishments downtown Holland has to offer … for just the boys,” Hagedorn said.

This tour will give them an opportunity to learn more about their favorite beers.  Hosting venues include New Holland Brewing, 8th Street Grille, CityVu Bistro, and George’s Smoke Shop.  Participants will try their favorite locals beers at New Holland Brewing, sip on Michigan Draft Beer at 8th Street Grille, taste international beers at CityVu Bistro and learn all about top cigars in George’s Smoke Shop.

Shawna Cantu, Pub Manager of New Holland Brewing has been working with Square Peg with many tours and is looking forward to participating again with this particular tour. "Last year went very well.  It is always great to support the educational value of beer in a fun way. This tour certainly does just that."  The tour reaches to many demographics, "It's not a typical pub crawl.  In fact, it's not a crawl at all.  It is a tour that features some awesome beers and a crew of guys who like to learn while sipping and tasting" said Cantu

Square Peg Events is an "art enhanced event company." As a promoter of the arts, Hagedorn often finds fun adventures to help people recognize that

art is everywhere.  "Beer is pure art from the creation of the beer to the label. We like to recognize that and to promote art in simple ways.  All of  our

events will have an art platform. We even have a community canvas to paint if the participants choose."

With tickets selling out last year and with only 40 tickets available for this unique tasting tour, Hagedorn said spots will fill up quickly. Tickets are $40 per person and can be purchased — starting today — at 8th Street Grille, 20 W. 8th St. Advance sales only — no door sales available. Participants must be 21 or older. Catherine McClung thinks Marlee Radosevich's art is "Bright, Witty and Bold", and I am inclined to agree with Mrs. McClung. Gallery Uptown, Grand Haven, @PureMichigan.

The following announces the upcoming June exhibition "Bright, Witty, Bold", at the Gallery Uptown, 201 Washington St. in downtown Grand Haven.  This group exhibition features three painters and one clay artist.  I have included an article on our clay artist Marlee Radosevich of Spring Lake.  Attached are images of each artist's work.  I can provide high resolution images upon your request.

When Marlee Radosevich, along with her husband, decided to spend their summers on a boat, she just knew she couldn't spend that much time away from her artwork.  The Spring Lake couple, both retired, keep a 36 foot Grand Banks Trawler in Northport, Michigan.  "Ship, shape" is her motto; a place for everything and everything in its place. Plastic tubs with lids are used to organize her art and art supplies.  Intricately painted dipping bowls that fit in the palm of your hand, are just one of the items that she creates for sale at local galleries and art fairs.  Her whimsical clay toothpick holders are often purchased as hostess gifts.

For the month of June, Marlee will be featured in a group exhibition at Gallery Uptown, 201 Washington St. in downtown Grand Haven. Also participating are three local painters, Catherine McClung of Spring Lake will exhibit her latest bird paintings done on both watercolor paper and on canvas.  Marlan Cotner, also known as the "Olive Lady", for her comical oil paintings that feature olives.  Currently, Marlan is working on her fifth cookbook.  The title is "Brunch with a Sex Kitten" and it includes a humorous illustrations on each page,   Mary Porter of Holland, displays her impressionistic watercolor paintings that allow her to go where the paint takes her.

Come and meet the artist at the opening reception for "Bright, Witty, Bold" on Friday, June 1, from 5:30pm to 8:00pm.  Everyone is welcome and refreshments will be served.  The artwork will remain on display at the Gallery Uptown until July 2, 2012.

Subject: A.C.T. Advisory board

Dear Friends, Facebook Friends, Parents, and Significant Others,

Many of you know me personally, some from Facebook, but what we all have in common is an interest in art.  Please, look at the attachments and think about giving an hour or two, 4 times a year, to assist my classroom, to begin with, have an opportunity to participate in the A.C.T. program.  So far, with the seed money from Grand Haven Community Foundation and other benefactors we were able to begin the program 5 years ago.  We have had the opportunity to have classes in drama, movement, visual arts, drawing, clay, photography and drumming. We anticipate continuing with the program, but we are ready for the next step...organizing on a more local level and hoping to offer more programs throughout the county.  We are starting in the tri-cities and hoping to grow.  Please, take time to look at the information...let me know if you are interested...let me know which of the following dates work best for you:  Monday, May 14, Tuesday, May 15, Monday May 21, Thursday, May 24, Tuesday, May 29 or Thursday May 31.  The meeting will start at 6:30 p.m. and last about an hour.  We will be meeting in my classroom, at 714B Columbus, Grand Haven...We are between Washington and Columbus, on the parking lots, behind the Bookman and Morning Star Cafe, on Washington.

Thank you for your time and consideration. Please, respond to me either way, and thanks again.

Sincerely,

Terry

On South Lake Muskegon, the Fish Monger's Wife returns for another season of selling Fresh Lake Michigan Fish. @PureMichigan

Hi, I love a good fish story in my email, and this is one of the best. We've fishing on the Great Lakes Again, thanks to the Fish Monger's wife. Her letter follows:

Greetings Fish Folk!

What a crazy couple of weeks it's been. We have been steadily working on our new building. If things continue to progress at this pace we should be back to the farmers market in early June with the store opening soon after. I'm including a couple of photos of our work in this email, but there are several more on our Facebook page.   Don't forget we are also still having a Fan drive. When we reach 500 Facebook Fans we are going to give away 5 pounds of whitefish fillets. Our goal it to reach 1000 fans so that we can give away 10 pounds of fillets.

Smokehouse Foundation
The foundation for my new smokehouses! We are building two side by side, cement block smokehouses.

New Processing Room Floor
Rosema's Concrete and Masonry crew worked most of last week prepping and pouring the new floor for our seafood processing room. Now we wait while it cures, so it can be sealed....

Tonight is the first day of Earthscape CSA pick up at our building. This week's boxes will include green garlic, scallions, spinach, mixed lettuce, turnip greens and radishes. Sound like to much green stuff for you? It did to me last year! But Patrice offers good recipes to try the less familiar veggies, and honestly, I can't wait to stir fry up the first batch of turnip greens, scallions and green garlic (leftovers are amazing the next moring with an egg on top!). If you are interested in trying out a share contact Earthscape direct. Don't forget you can also ask a friend to split a share...

Thank you for your business and we look forward to seeing you very soon!

Ciao,
